Hon: 31 Oct 2018: The Ministry of Fisheries hereby announces the re-opening of the beche-de-mer fishery with immediate effect following receipt of an Order in the Gazette.

This Order effectively revoked the instrument prohibiting activities (fishing or possession of beche-de-mer) published as Legal Notice. No. 8 of 2018 effective from the date of this instrument.

With the lifting of the ban, the general public is hereby notified that harvesting, processing and/or exporting of dried beche-de-mer is now lawful.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources advises companies or individuals wishing to export dried beche-de-mer products must secure export licenses.   Export License application forms can be obtained from the Ministry during working hours at a costs of SB$100.

The beche-de-mer fishery will remain open under the Ministry’s Beche-de-mer Management and Development Plan.
