Malaita Province Fisheries office has benefited from computer equipment given by the Ministry of Fisheries his week.
The equipment was received by the Principal Fisheries Officer of the province Mr Martin Jasper on behalf of the province.
Mr Jasper said the provision of the computer will greatly improve work output of the province as previously they documented their activities on papers which is not safe as it can go missing if filings are not properly kept.
Provincial fisheries in Malaita falls under the auspices of the provincial government and this is same for all the other provinces. However each provincial office also has seconded officers from the mother ministry.
Martin said under devolved powers, the Malaita Provincial Government is responsible for the fisheries office however, he is happy that the mother ministry has seen it fit to equip it with a computer.
“Malaita Provincial Fisheries office really appreciate this gesture and would like to thank the Government for the provision of the computer equipment,” he added.
Mr Jasper said this is an important gift to the province and its people and goes to show that the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources is keen to ensure efficient delivery of services to the people of Malaita.
The computer is part of the batch recently acquired to equip the ministry’s growing workforce.
