Revenue collected through licenses is set to hit an all time high this fishing season as more fishing days are being sold to the major fishing nations.

A three-day workshop conducted by Dr Andrew Hunt of the Oceanic Fisheries Programme ( OFP) from SPC for staff of the offshore Division has taught participants with the basic knowledge on how to analyse Tuna data from the TUFMAN 2 Tuna database Management information System.

Staff of the Ministry of Fisheries are being reminded to turn up for work by the Human Resource Manager Mr Tom Rarakani following incidence of staff missing work without any good reason.

Honiara, 21 October 2019: Offshore division staff of the Ministry of Fisheries have joined those from other Forum Fisheries Agency member countries in a series of workshops and meetings last week ahead of the Management Options Consultations Meetings (MOC) which will begin on the 28th to 31st October.

Dr Christian Ramofafia has been re-appointed as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. His appointment was formalised last week when he was sworn in at the government House.


HONIARA, 26 June 2019 – Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Fisheries who attended the 16th Forum Fisheries Committee Ministerial Meeting in Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, last week joined other ministers in signing off on a key report – the Strategic Action Programme for the Sustainable Management of Living Oceanic Resources by the Small Island Developing States of the Western and Central Pacific (the Strategic Action Programme or SAP) – for submission to the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
